The big and small accomplishments of 2019 are making an impact.

Wow, it is hard to believe 2019 is wrapping up already! It has been such a wonderful, busy and rewarding year for One For One Chicago and our amazing young adults.

If you are reading this, I want to personally say THANK YOU for all the amazing opportunities you have linked us to. It could have been a personal contribution that helped with transportation, a workshop idea, a job. It does not go unnoticed and it helps all of us build a better Chicago. One where we meet kids where they are at, follow through on what we say we are going to do and build a better world where opportunities are attainable and sustainable.

With the year coming to a close, it is so important to reflect on the big and little that made this year so special.

Some highlights include landing awesome summer job opportunities at our Keeping Grounded Greenhouse Program at Herban Produce -with an impressive100% success rate on attendance all summer. A series of educational workshops with the Design Museum of Chicago taught our students about art, creativity, collaboration and community. Did you know that banners the kids designed and created lined the heart of State Street for the month of September?

Incredible experiences with CBS Television and the cast of The Good Fight, where our teens found their voices and saw their potential. Then there were financial literacy classes, wreath designing, herb planting, and working Farm To Turntable events supporting the Garfield Park community. From hands-on hydroponics experience or taking in theater at Victory Gardens, these were new and exciting experiences for many. The teens dined at Boka Restaurant Group’s Cira, where they were treated to a meal and got to taste the greens that they grew with their own hands over the summer. There were interview prep classes and resume building, aiding students in getting state ID’s (many for the first time) and learning time management skills. These are just some of the impactful moments in 2019, big and small, that we are proud to share.

Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and peaceful new year. More great things to come in 2020!

With much gratitude,

Meghan Olson, Founder and Executive Director, One For One Chicago
